Share: Facebook twitter Linkedin We were thrilled to participate in Doors Open Toronto, an annual event in which iconic Toronto businesses and sites give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at their operations. Nearly 10,000 visitors stepped through the gates of our Redpath® Sugar Toronto Refinery to see live chef demos, view artifacts on display from our Redpath Sugar Museum and have their questions answered by our experts. They learned about the different kinds of sugars crafted at our refinery and got to peek inside our raw sugar shed to see our sustainably sourced and ethically grown sugar firsthand. From baking classes and cookie decorating to learning about our sustainability journey, it was a fun and educational weekend for visitors. “Our bond with the City of Toronto and the community is special,” said Refinery Manager Rob Gentilcore. “We are a sugar refinery that also happens to have neighbors that include condos, grocery and retail stores and commercial spaces. I believe that our presence is worth celebrating as an example of how long-standing businesses can exist within and support integrated, dynamic communities.” The Toronto Refinery is a vibrant local employer that provides family-sustaining jobs to more than 300 talented employees. “We refine 100 tons of sustainably sourced and ethically grown sugar per hour, and we supply 40 percent of Canada’s sugar,” said Rob. “We are immensely proud to be this economic driver not only for Toronto but for our province and beyond.”
