Share: Facebook twitter Linkedin As part of our sustainability program and outreach efforts, our colleagues in Belize recently launched a Youth Advisory Board to improve engagement with the newest generation of employees at Belize Sugar Industries (BSI) through projects and initiatives ranging from education and leadership development to team and community building activities. In February, the Board organized its first community service activity, a cleanup of the community’s Nature Park in Orange Walk. “We believe in helping youth succeed by putting them in the driver’s seat to improve the structures and communities around them,” said Mac McLachlan, ASR Group’s Belize Country Manager. “For decades, we have successfully managed youth apprentice programs to recruit and provide rewarding careers for outstanding young people with an interest in joining our team. Our Youth Advisory Board is just the latest example of our continued legacy of supporting our young employees.” At the cleanup, employees raked and bagged leaves, picked up trash and installed signs encouraging members of our community to reduce, reuse and recycle and to be respectful of local wildlife. “It was heartening to see such a strong sense of community and teamwork among the youth leaders and other members of our team who participated in the cleanup,” said Mac. “We see the success of this initiative as a testament to the power of collaboration and the willingness of our team members to go beyond the call of duty for the greater good.” Special thanks to our youth group for organizing and leading this project. Their dedication and hard work demonstrates that when youth are supported, they gain the skills they need, foster partnerships for change, and work with other young people to create an enabling environment for youth development, thus improving outcomes for everyone.
