A committee of industry leaders selected the winners from nominations received from members of the sugar industry based on their length service to the industry, career achievements, contributions to the betterment of the industry, involvement in industry organizations and activities and demonstrated leadership characteristics. Winners were announced in the May issue of the Sugar Journal, a monthly technical publication that reports on the latest sugar industry news. Mickey began his career in the sugar industry in 1982 as a plant electrical engineer in Gramercy, Louisiana, a position he then held at the Chalmette Refinery and Baltimore Refinery. In 2001, Mickey returned to Chalmette to fill the position of Refinery Manager. As his career progressed, he further developed his management skills by obtaining an MBA from the University of New Orleans. He has been Sr. Vice President of Operations since 2006. From installing the first ever ruggedized computer for industrial automation at a sugar refinery in the early 1980s to currently developing and implementing the latest technology at our refineries and NROs, Mickey has helped advance the sugar industry in many ways. However, he feels his most meaningful achievement is the mentoring he does today. “My biggest accomplishment at this stage of my career is building and developing the team that will carry on the work we are doing,” Mickey said. “It is great to be recognized for the contributions that I, on behalf of our organization, have been able to make to the industry.”
